The Scoop
CAMRA’s Pub of the Year 2024 is at the business end of the competition and there are only 17 pubs remaining. One the pubs in with a chance of being crowned the best pub in the UK 2024 by the Campaign for Real Ale is the Cresselly Arms, in Pembrokeshire. Located in Cresswell Quay, the pub has already received the accolade of ‘best pub in Wales’ by being the only Welsh representative in the top 17 pubs.

At high tide, the pub is accessible by boat from the Milford Haven estuary and there are several walking routes in the area. Having previously been named Pembrokeshire CAMRA Pub of the Year 2015 and 2024, the Cresselly Arms has gone one better in 2024 by being names the best pub in Wales and there could be more success to come. Could we shortly be raising a glass to the best pub in the UK?!
It is not often we get to celebrate success at a World Championship but Kelly Williams School of Dance were the toast of Pembrokeshire as they came third at the 2024 UDO World Street Dance Championships. The event was held in Blackpool between 14th and 18th August. The Kelly Williams School of Dance is based in Pembroke Dock and the school’s intermediate under 16 team finished in third place.

There were several categories including Duo, Battle Dance, Quads and Juniors plus dance schools from over 40 countries, so the competition was strong. Talking about their success, Kelly said, “It is a dream come true. This was our ninth championships. We’ve placed once before but we never went past the preliminary stages. However, this year we finished second in the prelims and third place in the final.”
Two years of work between EcoDewi, St Davids City Council, local businesses, organisations, and local residents has led to St Davids being awarded the Plastic Free Community Award. The award was confirmed by Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) and local businesses and groups have come together to earn the title.

Speaking about the award, EcoDewi’s project lead Jeremy Wadia said, “It has been fantastic to work with a range of great local businesses and organisations towards this award for St Davids. Of course the city isn’t totally plastic free, but there are loads of actions we can all take to reduce single-use products in our day to day lives for the benefit of our environment.”
William and Katy Fox have 322 British Friesians at South Astridge Farm, St Florence and since December 2023, they have participated in the Farming Connect ‘Our Farms’ study. The aim of the study is to assess the impact on milk when feeding cows a seaweed supplement. The aim of the tests is to measure the effects of the supplement on ammonia emissions from slurry.

The good news for us consumers is the interim results of the study show there was no negative impact on the quality of the milk and not even a hint of seaweed in the taste!
