The Scoop

The British Hen Welfare Trust (BHWT) is a charity that helps to rehome chickens across the UK and they are aiming to save 139 chickens this month. The ex-laying hens will be waiting for new homes at an event held on Sunday 19th of January in Boncath. BHWT started back in 2005 and has rehomed close to 1 million hens. At the time of writing, it appears many people have stepped forward to rehome hens using the Boncath link on the BHWT website, with 9 caged hens still needing homes.

Unfortunately, if the hens do not find a new home there is a high chance they will be sent for slaughter and that is why BHWT are working hard to find new homes for the hens. A flock of three or four hens (BHWT rehomes them in groups of three or more) will typically provide their new owner with “a couple of eggs a day for breakfast”, says Francesca Mapp, BHWT’s marketing consultant.

As Pembrokeshire County Council prepares its new well-being objectives for people and communities, you have a chance to give your views on the proposals. The objectives set out by the council show how the authority will make a difference in improving the well-being of local people and communities.

The four well-being objectives proposed by the council are: Our Future, Our Place, Our Communities, Our Council. You can find out more about each of these objectives by visiting the website and have your say by completing the online response form.
