The Scoop
Cleddau, a new television crime drama has finished filming in Pembrokeshire and is expected to premiere on S4C in October. The show is named after the River Cleddau and is set in Pembroke Dock. There were also scenes filmed around the county and it will be exciting to see which parts of Pembrokeshire are recognisable when the drama hits our television screens.

The show stars Elen Rhys (The Mallorca Files, Panic Button) and Richard Harrington (Hinterland, Fisherman’s Friends: One and All) who must work together in their roles as DI Ffion Lloyd and DS Rick Walters to solve the murder of a nurse. Carmarthenshire-born Sion Ifan, directed the series and, in addition to the original Welsh series, there will be an English language version for international audiences.
It was not long ago we were all scrambling to get a view of the northern lights. Some were lucky and some were not but little did we know there would be another chance this week! The aurora borealis was visible in Pembrokeshire Tuesday night (13th August) into the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Western Telegraph Camera Club were out in force to capture some stunning images across the country, including Haverfordwest, Bethesda, Trefin, St Nicholas, and Stepaside. There does not appear to be much aurora activity in the near future but if you missed it, at least you can enjoy the photos from this week!
Ellen Evans has become the first female D-Class helm in the history of St Davids RNLI lifeboat station. Ellen completed the tough training along with fellow volunteer crew member Julian Whitewright. There were many elements to the qualification process including VHF radio assessments, search planning, a practical assessment, and a written paper covering International Rules for the Prevention of Collision at Sea.

Speaking about their achievement, RNLI Coxswain for St Davids RNLI lifeboat, Will Chant, said: “Both Ellen and Julian have put a tremendous amount of time and effort into completing all the required training to fulfil the roles and be an inshore lifeboat commander. I’m delighted for both of them in light of the work and time they’ve invested and thank them for their commitment to the charity.”
A traditional wooden rowing boat has been rescued from a field and restored back to racing condition. Named ‘Myfanwy’, the boat had been left to deteriorate for years but John Harries came to the rescue. A skilled carpenter, John enjoys restoring boats as a hobby and the results of his work with Myfanwy are fantastic!

In the image above, you can see John with previous crew members and it is believed the boat was originally commissioned in around 1984. Myfanwy started racing in Newport but was also raced at the Great River Race in London. It’s brilliant to see the boat looking back to its best.
