The Scoop
If you don’t like snakes you might want to move on to the next story! Snake sightings in Pembrokeshire are being tracked and mapped by experts to better understand the creatures. Though most UK snakes are harmless, the venomous adder, with its zigzag pattern and red eyes, can be found here. Grass snakes, often olive green with a distinctive collar, are also spotted.

So far in 2024, Pembrokeshire has 17 snake sightings, including several adders. The map helps residents know where these slithery critters might be hanging out along their walking routes. If you see a snake in the wild or in your garden, the RSPCA advise you do not disturb them.
Beneath Tenby’s charming surface lies a labyrinth of medieval tunnels, dating back to the 1400s. Hidden behind a Boots store, one such tunnel chamber was once used by Tudor merchants for storing goods like wine and coal. These tunnels are steeped in history, with legend claiming they helped a young Henry Tudor escape King Richard III’s soldiers during the War of the Roses.

While the myth’s accuracy is debated, the fascinating underground network continues to intrigue, offering a glimpse into Tenby’s rich past. Presenter Dewi Prysor explored this underground labyrinth, revealing how it stretches from merchant houses to the harbour, possibly aiding secretive escapes centuries ago.
The Mid Channel Rock lighthouse, known as "the Pole," has guided over a billion metric tons of shipping into Milford Haven for nearly 60 years. Recently, it underwent a major refit to strengthen its structure, including a 25-ton steel sleeve and reinforced legs. The lighthouse, which has faced fierce storms over the years, also provides critical weather data.

Engineers completed the complex project amidst strong winds and challenging seas. The revamped lighthouse will continue to be a vital beacon for ships entering the port, ensuring safe navigation for years to come.
