The Scoop
Wales was yet to have a boat angling individual world champion but that changed when Gareth Protheroe tasted success at the 59th World Senior Boat Angling Championships. The event was held at Crosshaven, County Cork, Ireland and came with its fair share of drama.

The event took place in October but it was not until this week that the official results were announced. A dispute about an ineligible angler caused the delay but the result has now been confirmed and Gareth, from Cold Inn near Kilgetty, said, “Truthfully, it’s still sinking in. It’s fantastic and means more than you could ever imagine.”
Poppy Brown from Tenby received the Young Heart Hero Award at the British Heart Foundation’s awards ceremony. The event was held at Chessington World of Adventures and Poppy was presented with the award for the incredible strength and courage she has shown dealing with hypoplastic right heart syndrome.

It’s a condition Poppy has had since birth and she has faced 10 operations, despite being only 4 years old. One of the operations took 11 hours and a week in intensive care yet Poppy made an amazing recovery in just a week. Her dad, Ben, said, “We’re so proud of her. She’s a little warrior, an inspiration, and my hero.”
